Programme planning and unit development for effective classroom delivery
Diana Eagle
Showing how existing material can be modified to meet the requirements of the New Zealand Curriculum 2007. This modification includes the incorporation of values and key competencies and domain knowledge and skills in the area of food. The Food Technology Tool Box development model is a resource for programme planning and delivery that can be extended into other areas of technology.
First part of the workshop will be dedicated to the broad outline of the Food Technology Toolbox, how it has been tested and outcomes related to programme delivery. Participants will be welcomed to provide feedback from their own experiences in programme planning and delivery using this resource, as well as, suggestions for modifications to better support teachers.
The second part of the workshop will be working through the process of modifying an existing unit of work to better meet and focus on the requirements of the New Zealand Curriculum 2007.
This is an interactive workshop.
"Since its appearance the Toolbox has never left my desk. I have re-planned the delivery of my units and check every unit against the Toolbox to ensure that I have covered it all. It forms the foundation of my classroom practice. The Toolbox is the magic link that combines Home Economics, Food and Nutrition and Technology, all under one umbrella. Any teacher who is hesitant to teach food technology will find that the Toolbox states the obvious. I have made it a priority to inform teachers of the whereabouts of the Toolbox." Van Schalkwyk, Marietjie
Intended audience
Year 7-13 teachers who use food as a context in their technology programmes and those who are interested in following through a unit planning process using the unit planner template provided in the Techlink Curriculum Support material.
