Dr Andrew Cleland

Dr Andrew ClelandAndrew Cleland spent 23 years as an engineering academic at Massey University, including six years as Professor of Food Engineering. He was president of the NZ Institute of Food Science and Technology for two years. For the last ten years his day job has been as Chief Executive of the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ). Andrew contributed to the development of NCEA achievement and scholarship standards and has a real interest in the success of Technology – he has shown his support by committing considerable IPENZ resources to the development of Techlink and TENZ.


Professor Phil Bremer

Professor Phil BremerPhil is Head of Department Food Sciences at Otago University and has a range of research interests including food microbiology and the enhancement of food safety and shelf-life. Phil is an engaging speaker whose theme will be ‘Food Science and Technology – yesterday, today and tomorrow’. Some of you may have heard of his role in judging the best cheese roll recipe in the recent Science Festival in Dunedin.


Caroline Terpstra

Caroline TerpstraCaroline is Head of School Design at Otago Polytechnic and has a background in design management and enterprise. Caroline has always worked in the design industry, co-owning and managing a fashion-based manufacturing business and working in professional theatre, designing and making costumes for the stage. In her current role, Caroline has been involved in curriculum development and design from certificates through to masters level and enjoys this creative process.


Professor Clare Benson

Professor Clare BensonProfessor Clare Benson has had huge involvement in Technology education and is passionate about the development of primary Design and Technology worldwide. Clare will bring a valuable international perspective on primary education to TENZ 2011. Throughout her career Clare has worked in primary education, teaching in primary and secondary schools within the United Kingdom as well as overseas. She worked as an advisory teacher for primary Science and Technology before joining Birmingham City University, where she currently holds the position of director of the Centre for Research and Curriculum Development in Primary Technology.
