Industry Visits
Auto Restorations
Delegates who fancy a look close-up at some rare and expensive cars
will relish a visit this venue. Name a famous marqué and
chances are there will be an example at Auto Restorations!
Christchurch Engine Centre
Delegates will tour through the three workshops based at the Christchurch
International Airport. The tour includes visits to the new V2500
facility as well as the Air New Zealand maintenance hanger.
Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology
(CPIT)
Delegates will visit both the Sullivan Avenue, home of the Innovation
Trades Institute, and Madras Street campus. The tour will include
a visit to the recently opened Trades Innovation Centre as well
as exploring the facilities and programmes available to students.
CWF Hamilton and Co
This tour gives the delegates an opportunity to visit innovative
designers and manufacturers of the world famous Hamilton Jet units.
E-Time
E-Time is an ICT provider to students from schools in the Canterbury
region. Students have the opportunity to develop their understanding
and skills using various ICT hardware and software.
Harrington's Brewery
The visit to the Christchurch brewery should give the delegates
an understanding of the technological development in the brewing
of a variety of beers.
Lane Walker Rudkin
LWR is a leading clothing design and manufacturer with an international
connection through the Canterbury Clothing Company.
New Zealand Post
NZ Post has developed systems and processes that will efficiently
sort the mail coming through the Canterbury region. This tour gives
delegates an opportunity to find out about the technology behind
this organization.
Scott Engineering
The company has established an international reputation for the
manufacturing of larger scale automation systems for the world's
major appliance builders, such as General Electric, Electrolux,
and Whirlpool. Each automation system is comprised of a number of
cutting, forming, and assembly machines integrated together under
computer control.
St Helena Winery
The vineyard on the outskirts of Christchurch will give delegates
an opportunity to gain an appreciation of the technology supporting
wine manufacture.
Talbot Plastics
Talbot is at the leading edge of plastics technology in New Zealand.
Delegates can follow the design process, through rapid prototyping
and on to the mass produced high quality products.
University of Canterbury
Delegates will be given a tour of a variety of departments at the
University. The tour will include visits to the HIT Lab, Chem-E-Car
and a look at Bioreactors. There is also an opportunity to look
at the latest research being undertaken at Canterbury.
Whisper Tech
This company was a winner at the 2004 Hi Tech Awards. A $300m agreement
to supply a revolutionary personal power station to the UK has put
the Christchurch company onto the international stage of technological
innovation.
